PAOLO ZANI
He was born in Cesena in 1960 and currently lives and works in Milan. In 1986 he received a degree in Ceramic Technology and Design from the ISIA of Faenza, presenting a thesis entitled ‘La Calda Officina - Storia, Cultura e Progetto dell’Ambiente Cucina’ (The Hot Workshop – the History, Culture and Design of Kitchen Interiors), later published in “L’Ambiente Cucina”, issues 77 and 78 of 1990. In 1987 he received his Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from the Domus Academy in Milan. As a freelance designer he has created ceramic tiles (Marazzi, Gabbianelli), stereo headsets (Ross EI.), porcelain crockery (Winterling and Bareuther), carpeting (Louis de Poortere), eyewear (Optyl Holding), armchairs (V. Bonacina), cutlery (Lagostina, Sant’Andrea), lighting fixtures (Lumen Center, Candle, Fontana Arte, Arbos), interior design accessories (Schopenhauer) and tableware (HSH). He has also designed fair stands (Titan Bagno), collaborated in the development of new products for offices and public/private communities (Artifort), lighting (Lumiance), household appliances (SanGiorgio) and pens, watches and leather accessories (Mont Blanc). Since 1998 he has been the Art Director at HSH, manufacturers of tableware accessories. From 1993-94 he was Art Director at Lumen Center, a manufacturer of ligh-ting fixtures, where he also handled the corporate image and the design of stands for fairs in Italy and abroad. Since 1992 he has been producing ‘Warli’, his own collection of carpets made in India according to traditional weaves and, in part, distri-buted by ‘Moroso’. Since 1991 he has been with DDA (Domus Design Agency) – Mitsubishi Co. and since 1992 with BDA (Business Design Association), Tokyo, involved in the development of projects for Japanese firms. He has had various papers and projects published in design publica-tions, such as Modo, Abitare, Interni, Domus, L’Ambiente Cucina, Ufficio Stile, Il Bagno and Bagno e Accessori. In 1986 he collaborated in the realization of the book, ‘La Cintura di Orione’ (Orion’s Belt), published by Alesi-Longanesi.
